Skills [HD]



Sometimes silly, definitely entertaining and educational
I think a lot of people are judging this show based on the title and the "Old" Electric Company show. That particular show was before my time, so I don't have any preconceived notions as to what this show should be. :)

The Electric Company is a show about a bunch of kids with special word powers, the good guys are the "Electric Company" and the bad guys are the "Pranksters". The plot lines are silly, but mostly based on good principles (fairness, accepting other cultures, being responsible).

The devices they use to teach phonics are particularly cool, I think. They have segments where there is a close up of a mouth and a word that they're sounding out. I read somewhere that babies pay close attention to our mouth shapes to know how to move their mouths to pronounce words. Another segment is where two people face each other silhouette style and the sounds from both people are combined to make words.

Excellent for learning advanced phonics
This is the next level (or 2) above Seseme Street. It uses rhyme and pop culture to teach more advanced sound blends and word structure.

Good
I like this version of The Electric Company. I'm an elementary school teacher and I usually let my students watch this during dismissal time or if they eat lunch in the classroom. They love it.
